In 2011, I founded the first Volkswagen Golf forum in Australia. As a car enthusiast, I began the forum as a passion project to build a community through shared love for the Volkswagen Golf. 

 

Beginning a community from scratch isn't an easy task. I spent early days creating the brand identity, something that would be sleek and elegant. I used recruiting cards to put  on people's dashboards to ask them to join if they had a cool modified Golf. Slowly but surely, with dedication to populating the forum with relevant content, starting a blog, organising monthly events, distributing stickers, people wanting to be a part of the community and associated with the brand, and has continued to grow ever since. There are now close to 20,000 members Australia wide.
